Some of my favorites listed here
Who are your favorite artists?
Vulfpeck
1612 was the first song I heard by vulfpeck back in college.
Saw them in concert in 2017 in Ann Arbor. Mind-blowing show!
We’re also going to see them again in november in brooklyn!
Update: we saw them in Brooklyn
What is your favorite hobby or pastime?
Pinball.
There’s something about it. It has aspects of a videogame but brought to life with intricate mechanisms and lights.
It may seem fully random at first, but you get to a point where you can aim and pick where you’re going to shoot the ball.
Of course, you can’t eliminate gravity and weird bounces so you’ll always end up draining your ball at some point.
I run the weekly tournaments here in Traverse City at both of our pinball locations. I post all the results and announcements on tcpinball.org.
Check pinball map to find some machines near you!
Your life without a computer: what does it look like?
So much bullshit could’ve been avoided.
I wouldn’t have to know that kubernetes exists.
On the other hand, I really do love building stuff on computers along with the communities along the way. tilde.team wouldn’t exist and I wouldn’t be spending my days on IRC.
What aspects of your cultural heritage are you most proud of or interested in?
My mom’s side of the family has 100% Finnish heritage.
I’m very happy when someone pronounces sauna correctly.
What brands do you associate with?
I can’t think of any other that I would even recommend.
I have a Kirkland Signature shirt that I wear pretty often because I unironically like Costco and their products.
I’m reminded of the anecdote of their CEO threatening a middle manager to keep the price of the hot dog at $1.50.
What would your life be like without music?
This is nearly impossible to answer for me because I started playing the cello in 3rd grade. My entire childhood through to college had music as a core component.
I haven’t played cello since college but I bought a bass guitar during one of the first covid lockdowns in 2020. I really enjoy noodling around and finding random lessons on youtube.
Beyond playing instruments my day-to-day wouldn’t be all that different in terms of hearing it played.
I work from home and don’t usually have music on. It’s either podcasts or silence depending what I am working on.
Otherwise, the lack of music would be noticeable out in the world as part of the daily encounters with muzak and other things. I don’t live close enough to major concert venues to see shows on a regular basis, but it would certainly be jarring to have bars and coffeeshops silent without some good tunes.
How often do you walk or run?
Walking the dogs is daily, but I haven’t run in years. I have done a couple half marathons but that was back in my college days.
What are your favorite types of foods?
Pizza.
It’s the ideal food.
